Another Glastonbury, CT salvage job. We are not big red oak fans, as they are so common around these parts. However, this one was huge! This tree was located about 20’ from the house, and towered above everything. George identified a huge rotten section about 12 feet up from the base. One big storm could have been the end of that house! It had to come down. The base was too big to manage, so we slabbed it into thirds on-site. Though we struggled with the other sections, we were able to manage them into the trailer. During that day, I ran into a friend, Laura, who was out for a ride…she stayed and watched for a bit!
The 3 massive sections are still sitting on the farm, waiting to be slabbed and stacked. Our more favorable wood taking precedence. Two of these slabs will be heading to VT to become a workbench for a friend. Maybe there is a red oak slab. or 15, in your future???
